Wandering In the Hidden Gem of Kakkadampoyil in Kerala with My Peppy Colleagues

Nature indeed cured us, and I really didn’t know this before that eventful trip to those beautiful foothills of this part of the Western Ghats that is most deservingly called ‘Ooty of Malabar’. The lush greenery of Kakkadampoyil was obviously more than our expectations. It’s been some time that our team was planning for such a trip to any hills or some seashores, but got postponed for many a time. Also, the destination to which we were to travel also kept on changing with too many suggestions from all of each of us that ranged from Chikkamangalur to Bannerghatta. At last, it was our HR who came up this enchanting place, as he is also from Kerala. He is always like that when anyone at the office is caught in any such problem, he is there to solve up the issue most diplomatically. After all, he is meant for that.

For a more adventurous option, we thought of travelling by a bus sent by our tour operator Gogeo Holidays. Their tour consultants also appreciated us for taking such a decision, as we did travel via the Bandipur National Park. Moreover, the journey was quite comfortable and peaceful as we had booked their group tour packages that took care of each of the travelling aspects that we were about to face while heading to our destination at this captivating part of Kerala. We started from our city Bangalore by 9 in the morning and arrived at Kakkadampoyil by almost 6 in the evening. Actually, we had plans of saving a day by starting our journey at night and arriving here by early morning. But we could not follow that, as we were to pass through a reserved forest area where night travelling is restricted. Fortunately or unfortunately, due to this Plan-B, we got to witness the greenery of both Kerala and Karnataka. Furthermore, it was located at the borders of Calicut and Malappuram district.

We stayed that evening and that night at a beautiful resort at Koodarinji, as the places to stay in the small town of Kakkadampoyil is minimal. Moreover, from there, our location was only 30 minutes of travel. On the very next day after having a cool breakfast, we started to our destination on an early morning.  The climate then was already a bit moody then. When we were waiting for the bus by which we travelled from our hometown, around 4 cabs came to us as the road leading to the place were sloppy and narrower. Without wasting a single moment all of us got in. There were numerous agricultural fields amid the dense forest covers, that mainly constituted of Plaintain, coffee and cocoa crops. After 10 minutes of travelling, it was raining lightly. The real magic of the hilly destination was seen after that.  There were all misty clouds so abruptly. And as we were going to the higher elevation, we were literally moving into the clouds. Later, our team arrived at a crucial viewpoint of Kakkadampoyil that offered to us some mesmerizing panoramic views, as, by that time, the clouds were eventually disappearing. As the enjoyable activity of tenting was included in our packages, we also made some adorable tents at this beautiful hilltop and witnessed the breathtaking sights. Nature indeed seemed to be in great sync with our plans and time schedules. In that clear sky, we got to behold watch the views of neighbouring districts of Kannur, Kozhikode apart from Malappuram. Beyond that, there were some plain light blue areas. Somebody from our team was declaring that it could be views of the Arabian Sea!!

Might be, such an assumption cannot be left behind, as we were vacationing in the splendid land of Kerala. After devouring them, we proceed to the next tourist spot of Nayaadan poyil. From the point where our cab stopped, we had to trek alongside a forestry path of around 4 km. Strolling such a long distance at a go would never have been possible if we were doing so in Bangalore. But the dense cover of the forest and the soothing atmosphere made all the difference. There were the chirping of birds and some other small creatures evolved out of nowhere, maybe from the branches of tall trees. All of us were chatting and walking together until we reached the massive rock formations of Pazhassi Cave. It is believed that the Warrior King Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja had lived in this jungle vicinity during his hideout living. On further enquiry with the tour guide, we got to learn that the brave majesty was the first-ever Indian king to have fought against the British colonisers. In addition to that, we also got to meet the successors of some tribal populations who had supported their ruler at the times of his captivity a few centuries back. Even some of his belongings can be seen at the base of these caves.

2018041793-1-olwa1632nr0zwlz2rj9o0rhw80ae2wz98eoq6lr9myNow the turn was to reach the magical spot of Kozhipara Waterfalls, those were very accessibly reached by moving barely a walkable distance of 200 metres from the main road. Moreover, even before reaching the spot of the spellbinding cascading falls at a closer distance, we got to catch a glimpse of the rivulets those finally form the Kozhipara waterfalls. The pristine waters or Kuthradampuzha River that gush through those peculiarly adorable rocks were tempting each and every person of our team to dip in them. As the region is under the reserved forest covers of Kerala, we had to pay a small price at its entry point. Even though the regions around Kakkadanpoyil are unexplored and rarely visited, the tourism department of the state had ensured to install some railings for the safety of the visitors. The gushing waters were indeed sumptuous as it had rained for the past few days. So, some of their spots were banned from entering in by the forest department. Therefore we dipped and bathe in the crystal clear waters in some pond-like structures. We had lots of fun playing in the waters in such a peaceful ambience.

For taking us to a wonderful trip to this unexplored beautiful location, we really feel grateful to our company and obviously, we would like to appreciate the efforts taken by Gogeo Holidays for arranging a hassle-free journey by preparing such engaging travel itinerary.

Exploring the Calvary Mount of Kerala with My Cousins: Travelogue from Hyderabad

That resembled the same natural landscaping of the scenery picture hung in my parent’s bedroom. It has been hanging there since the time we shifted into this home almost 15 years ago from our Army Quarters. And I really did feel awkwardly delighted when I showed the pictures that we had clicked during our trip Calvary Mount in Kerala to my ex-military dad, as he had a few tears in his eyes after that. I still could not figure out why was it so. Ah, anyways, it was decided during our yearly family meet at Durga pooja holidays last October, as they are now settled in different parts of the country. That is Reghuram is in Delhi, Pooja Akka and his younger brother Gokul in Chennai, Maneesh in Ahmedabad, Soorya is in Kochi, Abhijit Annaya in Guwahati and the remaining people Ranghat and Laya are the only ones in our native town Hyderabad. I being a single child, I was always close to my dear cousins even though we had to move to different places as the years went by. But anyhow, I feel that I am on the top of the world whenever I am spending time with them. This year when we met, we thought of making any bigger and it was quite incidental to pick that mesmerizing picnic spot of Calvary Mount in the easternmost parts of Kerala for the same.

Our very first move was to decide the time of our vacation. As all of the 9 people in our gang could not wait for more, we finally decided to set out during the winter vacations. The senior-most of this cousin gang, Abhijit Annaya who is just out of the college had always been very adventurous in everything he does. But he had never caught in any grave issues that had halted his wanderer kind of living. Every now and then he goes for a trip along with his friends for which he receives scolding from Sridevi Auntie. But he never cares about that. It was he who suggested the name of Kuttikanam on our discussion, as it would be best to visit the place during winter days in cold misty weather conditions. But due to some technical issues, our major destination for our tour had to be changed. Nonetheless, we would never regret that decision. Fate had brought us here.

It was my overprotective dad who insisted on vacationing after booking any appropriate packages, and we were to travel to some unknown place. To be frank, he does not believe in the ways and plans of Abijit Annaya. After some thorough research, he finally decided to send us safely to Kerala with one of the best tour companies that he could trust. It was the Lelagoon Holidays based in Kochi who made our trip worthy in every aspect.

We reached Hyderabad on the previous day of our trip as we had an early morning flight from the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport to Cochin Airport. Later, we did not have to plan much in the flight hours, as our tour operators had already done everything for us. So we were having our own time by talking continuously. Within 2 hours of flying, we arrived at Cochin Airport. Once cross-matching with our names listed in the placard, we spotted our driver-cum- a guide from the crowd. As it was during the beginning of the vacation, Keralites all across the country and over the globe might be coming to their home. Anyhow, we moved to our cabs by which we traveled to our resort in Idukki, which was the next adjacent district. We were most thrilled about camping in the hills of Calvary as they were one of the most interesting things included in the packages that excited us.

kerala tour packages from bangalore

We arrived at our destination almost at noon, so we had our lunch from the restaurant of our resort itself. The food served there satisfied both our tummies and heart. The tents that we were to stay are under the supervision of the resort we checked-in initially. After that, we moved to our major destination, which was on the top of the adjacent hill of the resort. The trekking was not that challenging as we were helping each other especially the elder ones in the gang. The real unity of we the cousins was now more proved. So we could truly enjoy the beauty of nature at this part of the state while mounting up. After some time, we reached comparatively a flat portion.

From that space, the views behind were sheer captivating. It seemed that the verdant hills of this Calvary Mount were merging up to the scenic lake formed by the Idukki reservoir at some point. When we got to know that we will be staying overnight at these tents, the youngest one Maneesh were jumping in the happiness knew no bounds. Even though the time in which we reached the top of the hill was not that late, there were misty fogs all around and the temperatures too were dipping down. Later at the night, they had arranged campfires for us in the middle of the 3 tents we got to stay in. We the girls were made to stay in a tent facing the lakes on our special demands. Therefore, Pooja Akka, Soorya, Laya and I could spend the remaining time talking and gossiping for the whole night. Our brothers had their time together in two other spacious tents.

kerala tour packages from coimbatore

The very next day of this trip was most worthy, as got to experience that we never had before. The rays of the risen sun were in front of us in a somewhat different mood. To our surprise, one side of the sky was beginning to shine brightly, whereas the other was a bit moody with dark clouds. The views on the sunny side were truly awesome and could find indeed some distance. I think we got to see the entire district from there. As we were at the summit we find behold at the play of these clouds clearly. It seemed that the sun was playing hide-n-seek with us. Without much time, Gokul spotted a herd of wild elephants at a side of the lake. All of us were trying to click pictures of it, after zooming our cameras to its maximum. Everything around us impressed us in every possible way they could. We feel fortunate to have visited Calvary Mount and chosen our tour company to make it hassle-free and enjoyable.

A Breath-Taking Trip to Kerala with my Friends

Life was moving at a usual pace, the normalcy of routine was the only thing that made us drowsy these days. We had just graduated from college and the only trips we (me and my group of four friends) made were for small meetups or for job interviews. We had one long free month before joining for our fresh jobs. We were all placed at different companies and we wanted to make some long-lasting memories before setting out for new roles in our life. All of us had different opinions and plans at first and after many hours of discussions, we concluded that a week-long trip to an exotic land is what we need. The next hurdle was choosing the destination but surprisingly all of us unanimously voted Kerala as our dream destination. We wanted to try out different things at Kerala and was in need of a solid plan. After a lot of research, we shortlisted some locations and activities that we wanted to try once we reach Kerala. We were so lucky to have found out Gogeo Holidays as our travel partner. With their cheapest Kerala tour packages and that too a personalized one, our trip turned out to be the best moments of our life.

We knew Kerala as a verdure spot with places like Wayanad and Munnar. All of us were from Delhi and we had studied in Mumbai. This was our first time coming closer to South India. Our flight rates were much less than we had anticipated. Thanks to Gogeo Holidays! We were starting our trip by saving a great deal of cash. Our trip lasted for two weeks and I think we could cover only half of the best destinations in Kerala, and we have already planned to come back to Kerala itself for our next trip and complete the expedition.

We boarded the flight to Kochi from Delhi at 6 in the morning and it took us three hours to reach there. Even before we landed at Kerala, the view from the windows from out there at the sky itself intrigued us. There were many water bodies and green spots – that is how I would explain the view. Once we reached Kochi, we were taken to our room which was so clean and came with all the modern facilities. The interesting thing that all of us noted was that the usage of Wi-Fi and our smartphones lessened as each day passed. We were so lost in the beauty of Kerala that we were not slaves of technology for two weeks. So, the breakfast – we started the Kerala treat for our stomachs with puttu and kadala and appam and chicken curry. After taking rest for 2 hours we left to visit Kochi and our travel operators arranged a car for us on request. We would have taken a guide, but wanted to explore the land on our own. Some of the spots like Hill Palace, Bolghatty Palace, Pallipuram Fort, and Indo-Portuguese Museum are some of my personal favourites. Marine Drive and Lulu Mall are the places from where we clicked some group photos of us.

kerala tour

We visited the Greenix Village as per our travel operators told us when we asked about Kathakali. As Kochi is known for the support of cultural and artistic activities, it would have been a great miss if we hadn’t known about this place. We forgot about lunch as we were so immersed in finding places to explore. At Greenix, there was a restaurant too so we had some pancakes. There is a cultural museum and we visited it before the Kathakali performance started. It was a mind-blowing performance with all those micro-expressions and all. The costume itself made us wonder how rich in culture and totally a different land is Kerala. There are many beaches in Kochi and we could visit only a few out of it like Fort Kochi Beach, Cherai Beach and Munambam Beach. Fort Kochi and Mattancherry are places that hold the greatest spell in Kochi. There are many places like Princess Street, Burger Street, Rose Street, Parade Ground etc. that had a lot of things to offer. With many cafes like Pepper House, Kashi Art Cafe, Bench Cafe and all we could not leave this place for a week. The biggest part of our trip was spent at Kochi itself. We moved to No. 18 Hotel to explore places closer to it. We met some old friends of ours from Kochi and had a great time at the Cochin Club. The boat jetty ride is the cheapest mode of transportation as it would cost not more than 10 rupees to travel across many nearby destinations like Marine Drive. The picture of the Chinese fishing nets is more breathtaking in real and we also tried using it. What we missed was the Biennale that happens every two years in Kochi. The Kochi-Muziris Biennale is an international art exhibition that stretches for a period of three months from December to March. A chance to visit the colonial building Aspinwall House was what we missed with the biennale. We wandered through the Jew Street too and bought many fresh spices to take back home. We are so thankful for this best Kerala tour packages as we would have stayed stuck at one place if we had not availed an itinerary for our trip to other places in Kerala.

best kerala tour packages

Alleppey was the next spot and the clean beaches were the first place we hit there. We could visit only Alleppey Beach and Marari Beach. We visited some small villages where coir making and handicraft making businesses were thriving. We bought some souvenirs from there just like we bought many bohemian styled clothes from Fort Kochi. The backwater cruise was of course, the best part of Alleppey. We glided through the Vembanad Lake and also visited the Kumarakom backwaters. The luscious seafood with some toddy (a local beverage made from coconut) is something that I still ache for.

cheap and best kerala tour packages

There were many other places like Munnar, Vagamon, Thekkady, Wayanad, and Kannur that we picked for our trip. This story of our visit would go on and on and there is a lot to write about each and every place and I will definitely write more about the rest of the trip too, but I know that mere words are not adequate to explain the charm of Kerala.

Periyar: Where We Fell For The Most Comfortable Natural Habitat Of Animals.

Kerala remains favorite to all the travelers who have been to the place at least once in their lifetime. It is, in short, a destination where nature speaks for itself. It makes a hub where the travelers get to explore the wilderness in sheer excitement. This excitement was something that packed up my family every year at that point in time where I and my sibling have holidays and my parents have off from work. Most of the holidays we traveled to Kerala as my moms ancestral house was located at Alleppey right by the backwaters. So we never had to be on a backwater journey as such but every alternate year we visited Kerala, we always made sure that we visited one place of significance. Palakkad, Thrissur, Kozhikode had all been covered through the Kerala tour package from Bangalore. This time we had planned something new where we would get to enjoy more of the richness of nature by being at one single place which was Thekkady.

It had got colder at Bangalore and was one of the best weather I loved to be there but there was no other time all of us were free to escape to Kerala due to which we got into the train to Alleppey from where we got to set off to our locality as we always took my moms parents along with us whenever we travelled around in Kerala. And then we hired a vehicle in which we drove 140 kilometers where we reached Thekkady. We had booked 2 rooms in the resort where we were looking forward to having another best holiday at Kerala. It was astonishing that there were a number of places worth paying a visit located in this Gods own country. The resort was worth the money we had to spend on it as we had taken luxury rooms. As of my dads and moms opinion, they always insisted that we spend holidays in luxury as the rest of the days all of us are working hard. So if it is for two days, make the most out of it. We had reached at 6 pm in the evening that there was nothing much for us to do in the evening. The resort was more of a hangout place where we spend time by the pool that had hammocks and pool lounge chairs. The night went by where we had the best family time. We ordered food in the night that 6 of us could consume as no money goes wasted on food that is unconsumed. We all got early to bed as the next day, early in the morning we would set off to Periyar National Park. More than the fact that it was a wildlife sanctuary, it is also a tiger reserve which made the place more interesting to me.

I had taken everything required which included binoculars, shoes, repellent creams as I had a notion in my mind that it would literally be a walk through the wild. The entry time to the place was from 6 am to 5 pm which was probably why we had been standing at the doorsteps by 5:50 am with our entry passes in our hands. The passes were just 25 rupees and did not seem to be costly at all except for the foreigners. After having some quick bites and coffee, we got inside.  My maternal grandparents had been all healthy and they seemed as enthusiastic as me to be on the nature walk. We hired a guide who we thought would be more helpful in taking us through the several activities that take place inside. Jungle scout, Tiger Trail, Nature walk, Border trekking and a lot more of exploration was possible inside the sanctuary. The most exciting to me was bamboo rafting where we would be set on a three-hour journey through the wildest place ever.  A large number birds that would count up to 230 reside inside the sanctuary. I had already begun sighting some while the sounds of the other animals had been reaching to all us. And all of us a sudden, I was reminded of Bannerghatta in Bangalore where we had once gone. In fact, this was the second national park I had been visiting.

The nature walk took us through the trees and plants that had been there. Both my mom and grandmom were quite into planting that they got immersed in the walk completely. I had already been on nature walks with school squad when I had been at Bangalore but none of it seemed close to what I had been experiencing here. By 11 am, we set off on the bamboo for rafting. We took two rafts and decided to move in the same direction. The literal hope I had in my mind was to see elephants in the banks. We went through trees that surrounded us on one side and on the other side we could to see grasslands. We went long where the rafters spoke to us about the sanctuary. The freshness of both the Periyar Lake and the surroundings were quite reviving to all of us. Also, we had safety guards where all of were in life jackets. When we reached a point we decided to return back. I saw jackals and jungle cats that had been on the shores. The fun fact was how all the animals lived their lives in the natural habitat of forests. We have to pay a lot of money to see them in cages at the zoo which I always found to be the most disgraceful way of making money. Here we could see them stride happily and that was what made all of us happy. On the way back, we also got to see a herd of elephants that had been sipping water from the lake. I had seen elephants before a lot of time where those that had been crossing roads at Bandipur when we had been on our way from Banglore, had been the most exciting but this sight took its place.

We got back and walked through along with the guide where he showed us the paws of the tiger. It had been an imprint on the mud and a way through which they got back setting on their prey. The guide said that this was the main reason that the sanctuary closed by 5 pm as the tigers and other animals would get out on hunting as the darkness falls and so safety measures are always to be taken.  The natural habitat was indeed so much more fun than I had thought it would turn out to be. It was 5 pm and we were out on time. The single-day exploration had come to an end but our Kerala trip was still on. There was some more scope for us where we could be sitting alongside the Vembanad lake and tossing in some spicy Seafood alongside the fresh toddy where we did not have to spend a single penny on it. And we would be taking catamaran rides to go across as well where we would still feel touristy on a 3 rupee service until we get back to Bangalore. This other part of life is hence something that is worth treasuring for a life where we can live with a stipulated amount of money but we choose to be different. The village life is worth an experience when on a Kerala tour package with the price. It is, in short, a journey of realization of what we have on the other side of the coin.

TAKE A REPOSE AND UNWIND YOURSELVES, A VAST SEA SHORE IS WAITING FOR YOU!

Recently, I had a visit to Bangalore for an interview. Since I am from the capital city of Kerala, Trivandrum, my journey was awesome and I had some couple of my friends at Bangalore. After the interview, which went smooth, I had a meet up with my friends, sharing some cups of cappuccino. In our conversation, I caught up something that, even though the life in the IT hub of India seems interesting, jolly and enthusiastic, there is a darker side to it. Actually, my friends needed a change and rejuvenation of the mind. What I can suggest is a trip with friends or family, inflicting a feeling of ‘Out of the world’. My friends are actually beach lovers, so I suggested one of the top beach destination in Kerala, lying at my very own homeland, Trivandrum, which is Kovalam. Kovalam is a haven of serenity and the best place to hang out with friends, family or spouse. It is easy to reach from Bangalore as there are flights from Bangalore to Kerala landing at Trivandrum International Airport. A smooth travel can be achieved if tour packages are picked as it would include more places too. I have suggested some of the tour planners like Gogeo holidays where some authentic packages are prevalent to entice the tourists, and they will be giving awesome beach facing resorts for the stay.

Kovalam has the power to rejuvenate ourselves as the vibrant beachside is awesome to watch and spend time. Located about 16 kilometres from the city of Trivandrum, the ambience is free from the regular hassle of the city life. Kovalam is an international beach destination as there you can spot too many foreigners. Let us start the discussion of this vibrant piece of the seashore with its natural beauty and surroundings. Kovalam beaches are divided into three namely, Lighthouse, Eve’s beach and Samudra beach. These three beaches are separated by rocky out cuttings. Tourists can visit any of these beaches and bask in the sun. There is provision for the tourists to bask in the sunlight and chairs are provided for the same. Foreigners usually here opt for swimming, sunbathing and surfing. The reason for its placement in the tourist map of travellers across the world is due to the clean and bizarre surroundings, equipped with developed tourism facilities. To unwind yourselves, Kovalam is the best one. I am sure, it will be a perfect escape for my friends in Bangalore city. The climate is somewhat chill in Bangalore and at Kovalam, needed warmth can be provided to the skin. Some of my friends came with their family to Kovalam. A stay on the beach facing resorts is a dream of many, especially honeymoon couples.

Here, the majesty of the Arabian sea can be experienced and the water is clean and pristine, making the swimming extremely joyful to the tourists. When you come with your family, take a swim in the beach as it is the funniest part of Kovalam beach. Surfing is usually done on the beaches and necessary amenities will be provided. Taking into consideration of the safety of the beaches, guards are kept at each point so as to warn the tourists who enter deep into the sea. Eve’s beach is near to the lighthouse beach and since both are separated by a rocky promontory, the beauty of Kovalam will provide more option for the tourists. One can climb over the rock and watch the sea. The cool wind blowing from the sea is truly a rejuvenator. This spot is enjoyed more by the honeymoon couples and also kids love in climbing up the rock. Visit Kovalam with your family and make your children soak in the beach holidays. Owing to the safety and cleanliness, this beach is perfect for a family vacation and thus choosing Kerala family tour packages to Kovalam is the best idea. When visited during festive seasons, Kovalam will dress up in a festive mood and several fests like Village fair, elephant fair, Nishagandhi dance festival and Food festivals will be hosted. These festivals can entice people of every age and walks of life. These festivals are actually showcasing the cultural richness of Kerala and Swati Thirunal Musical festival is a great example.

There are too many food stalls, multi-cuisine restaurants facing the sea and delicious seafood are served there. If spicy Indian snacks like Panipuri, Bhelpuri, chat masala, chilly filled pineapple and mango pieces with the flavours of juicy items are your tastes, then head for a local stall placed in the beach shores. Coming to the activities that can be done in the Kovalam beaches, water adventures are the prime one. Swimming, surfing are some of the common water adventures and since it is the most sought tourist destination, Ayurveda and health centres are prevailing on the beach shores. Undergo some rejuvenation therapies to calm your mind. I have suggested this to my friends so that the hectic lifestyle of the Bangalore can be dealt with the magic of Ayurveda. Are you a shopping freak? Then the beach facing stalls in Kovalam is all yours. One can buy a handful of handicrafts, clothing, beach wears, hats and antiques with reasonable prices. Lighthouse beach is where a tall lighthouse is placed near to the sea and it has provision to allow visitors to reach up to the top and watch all sides of the Kovalam beach. The rocky promontory between lighthouse beach and eve’s beach is called Edakallu and people love watching the sunset from this rock. Settle in any of the rock formation and watch the biding sun. The changing colour of the sky during twilight is a must to watch.

Nightlife in Kovalam is what everyone should watch. Evenings are meant for blasting in Kovalam and the bars, restaurants are fully awake to serve the same. Live music with delicious eateries are provided by some restaurants and to involve in other social entertainment, several bars are open in the night. With dance, fun and music, enjoy the delicious cuisine under the night sky. The nearby attractions around Kovalam include Karamana stream and the boating there. Reach at Thiruvallam vessel club offering activities like kayaking trips, cruise trips and windsurfing. A trip to Kovalam will family or friends can increase your bonding and is the most suggested place to unwind yourselves. For employees working in a busy metropolitan city in India like Bangalore, can make a travel here. In fact, if I get tensed on some issues, the visit to Kovalam can revive me and give me the strength to counter the issue. Thus, soon give Kovalam an entry to your travel itinerary to Kerala.

Wayanad: Where Nature Hosts The Guests To The Evergreen Hillock.

Anyone traveling to the beautiful destination of Kerala would be startled at the real richness of nature at the destination. Rivers, hills, and forests lead the way to anyone’s heart and it turns out to be the real destination where exploring has more scope. The destination turns out to be the best place to be at when with friends as well. A personal journey of my friends through the forests and hills makes way to this realization. We had 10 days of holidays after the semester break and were eager to set off on a journey where we would also be able to refresh our minds. We had already been to most of the beautiful places in Bangalore and wanted to set off on a moderate long journey due to which we decided to take it on 300 Kilometres drive from Bangalore to Wayanad. We could draw our journey on few basis where drive, trekking, and budget were the prime factors to the travel. We were students and so budget was the pocket money which we had saved for 5 months and so we were keen on checking the Kerala Tour Package with price range that fell into our budget. We decided to hand some of our planning work to Seasonz India Holidays who were our planners we had found for ourselves.

The final exam had been good but we were eager to leave as soon as possible due to which all of us cracked our exam in an hour and a half and got back to the apartment to load our bags into the jeep that belonged to our friend who resided at Kannur. We could hence cut on to half of our budget as we had the vehicle for travel and decided to pool the money for the petrol. We set full tank petrol before setting off and then drove to the way of our dream travel which began from Bangalore to Wayanad. We had lunch from the city and packed some snacks for our journey where we got to the way through Mysore. the destination seemed to be of more greenery and less of pollution. It was a working day which avoided a lot of traffic on the way and got us to be on a soothing journey through the roads.

It took us an approximate time period of 7 hours where we took three stops in between as we had been driving in turns. There were 5 of us and each of us had varied interests on travel. It was 8 in the night when we reached Wayanad and got to see the welcome board through the beam light. One of my friends said we could spend time outside till 10 in the night as the weather had been quite chilling but slight drizzling got me back to the jeep and called the tour planners for the location to the hotel that had been booked for us. We had insisted that we wanted a cheap room as no fancy room could ever reach the comfort level of a normal room with just beds in it and an attached bathroom. Following the route map, we took our way to the hotel that had been waiting for us. We got food parcelled for the night and in the comfort of our economical room, we ate our dinner. There were 5 of us and only 4 bed space was available in the room due to which we got an extra bed.

The next day came to us in glory as we were off to Chembra peak which was, in short, the way to an epic trekking journey.  Being one of the largest peaks of Western Ghats, we were excited to set off to the top. We had already got the trekking poles and hired a guide for the trekking as there were chances that we could get lost. So following the footsteps of the expert person we walked through the grasslands where we also got to see beauty approaching us in the form of nature. The way had been rocky and it was not easy to climb up. We took several halts in between until we got to see the heart-shaped lake staring which all of us spend some good time. The guide informed us that the real trek up the hills was only beginning. We had been to Nandi hills at Bangalore for trekking but it seemed a lot greener her which showcased wildness.  We took some beautiful pictures of flora and fauna as we climbed where nature seemed to take care of itself. After taking several stops we got to the top where we got to see the real scenery of the destination from the top. Clouds still seemed to move through us even when it had been almost noon. Anyone could be happy with trekking up to the top to end up seeing the orgasmic view of nature shimmering in its real allurement. We spend approximately 2 hours thereafter which we decided to climb down. We tipped the guide along with his wage as he had been more than a guide to us in the whole trekking experience.

The hike had been tiring but worth. We grabbed enough food and decided to go to the next spot which was the Karalad Lake. Adorned with pure beauty, we got to see zipline services functioning in the region. None of us had got into an adventure like it due to which all of us took turns in doing it  People had also been kayaking through the lake but we were quite late to reach up to do the same at Karalad. The price had also been alarmingly high. We had also been a part of a trip from our college at Bangalore in which we had indulged in kayaking at River Shambhavi. So we did not mind missing it and left to the hotel after a drive along the roads where the Kerala tour package from Bangalore had successfully come to the second night at Wayanad.

The next day we got up and vacated the hotel as by early evening we would be leaving back to Bangalore. Two of them stayed at Kannur and Kozhikode due to which they would be returning through bus service while three of us would drive back to our hometown. The last place where we decided to visit at Wayanad was Lakkidi View Point. Crossing approximately 13 miles we reached to the place where the viewpoint had a lot of people. The inhabitants of Wayanad were pretty much living a blissful life where they could feel freshness while breathing while we had to wear masks at Bangalore to protect our lungs. The scenarios were always different and that is exactly what had attracted us to visit the destination where we could be on an economically viable journey. After spending a good time capturing the pictures of the viewpoint, we took our way to the bus top where we dropped the guys and set back off to our own hometown.

null
We Keralite have heard about the famous water regatta, Aranmula boat race, a part of our tradition. Do you know that an ancient life experience of a Brahmin late came to be evolved as the most respected and enjoyed culture of Kerala? We have witnessed its eminence in close; still, there are some including me who are not aware of its significance. This great festive like event is held on the last day of the harvest festival of Kerala, Onam that is Uthrittathy according to the Malayalam calendar. Since this day comes under the period when all the other boat races are scheduled, you can expect a number of visitors during this time. It is also a golden opportunity for those who have missed Nehru trophy boat race in Alleppey. More than the natives of Kerala, the people from other states or countries are more thrilled in watching these events. This time taking this fact into consideration, many travel organizers are arranging a trip in this Onam from other parts of the country as well. Let them enjoy and understand our tradition’s magnificence, as they always do. Native’s f Pune is more attracted to enjoy the water fiesta as they long to watch these kinds of game that arouse the spirit of people. Thus along with other trips in Kerala, the last day of Onam is purely dedicated to watching Aranmula boat race. It is not just the race, but there are some more attractions for this. Pune natives can enthrall on having the best Kerala meal this time and can ask for any vegetable curry they want. This is a special part of the day, where a sumptuous feast is organized for masses arranging a variety of Kerala traditional dishes. Thus, various trip packages like Enchanting Kerala tour packages from Pune including great kind of attractions to watch on this special day are arranged by various trip arrangers. Along with which the curious people from Pune can witness the temple, Sree Parthasarathy temple for which actually the event is well connected. Also, they can take away with them the most precious and auspicious special type of mirror, the famous Aranmula mirror. The interesting fact is that the material used for it is not glass but something else. Let’s find out what it is, before, which understanding the mythology of the temple is necessary.

Sree Parthasarathy Temple

The Aranmula boat race has a strong connection with this temple. Actually, it is organized to offer tribute to the deity, Lord Krishna and the day when it is conducted is the annual celebration of the idol when it was installed. The presiding deity is Lord Krishna in the form of Parthasarathy, the role played by Lord Krishna as the Chariot of Arjuna, the Pandava prince in the great Mahabharata war. The temple is surrounded by various myths and the sight of the temple itself is awesome and majestic. This holy temple is located on the banks of river Pampa at Aranmula Village, about 128 kilometers from Trivandrum. The temple is said to have 1700 years old. An epic is related to the evolution of the temple is as such that after gaining victory in Mahabharata war, the Pandavas continued to live and at last made Parikshit, the grandson of Arjun the king and they left for pilgrimage. On the course of their pilgrimage, each of them has installed an idol of Lord Krishna in various places. Of which, Arjun has installed the idol at a place called Nilakkal Narayanapuram which was later taken to the present place. The idol was brought here with great welcome on a boat made of  6 bamboo sticks which later evolved into the name of the village as ‘Aranmula’ meaning the 6 bamboo sticks. This day is celebrated annually but how a boat race was envisaged is a story. There are four main entrances to this temple of which one points to the Pamba River. One noticing aspect is that the door of the sanctum sanctorum will never be fully closed. It is always partially closed so as to denote the permission given by Lord Krishna to his devotee, Arjun to visit him at any time. One needs to climb many steps if they are entering from east and North of the temple. Thus getting a chance to visit the temple premises and rituals is considered sacred. Natives of Pune can enjoy the ancient art form, Arjuna Nirtham on their tour free of cost.

Valla Sadhya or Mass Feast

This is a unique mass feast arranged by the temple authorities as an offering to the Lord and devotees can attend the feast. It is a huge celebration of the temple, conducted on the auspicious birthday of the Lord, Ashtamirohini. Have you been to Kerala during this time? Since it is a festive time, the state will glitter in joy. Although being an off-season for tourism, you can watch many tourists arriving Kerala for the exclusive watch of these festivals like boat races especially along with Athachmayam and other rituals. To attract them, more package itineraries are included this time focusing on certain tourists like people from Bangalore and Pune.  The natives of Bangalore are more inclined to the technical world but are highly religious and jovial. What they seek most is the food in Kerala; this time they can get it with more pleasure as Vallasadya is here, where devotees are fed with Kerala meal having 45 dishes. Along with a sacred delicious meal in the temple premises, it is a chance for them to enjoy the boat race. Hence, various Kerala tour packages from Bangalore with low rate are including the visit to Aranmula village during Onam season. Around one lakh people will be attending the feast and you can ask for any dish, which will be served to you. Actually, this feast is arranged specially for the participants of the boat race or the crews of Palliyodans (snake boats). The legends say that during the ancient period the rice and other agricultural products were transported by driven boats on Pampa River to the King’s palace. Once a boat carrying these products got struck on the bank of the temple. Nobody could make it move even the soldiers of the king. The king asked his astrologer upon whom it was cleared that a Brahmin family is starving during Onam and is not able to cook anything due to poverty. They have prayed to the Lord and it is the magic of the god himself who made the boat to get stuck. The king decided to give a part of the products to the family even then the boat did not move. Then on further inspection, they came to know that there are more families there who are starving. The whole product in the boat was distributed to all families. Thus after this incident, the mass feast was arranged to the devotees during Onam, never letting anyone to stay empty stomach during Onam.  The oarsmen will come in a boat to the temple and the feast is for them.

Aranmula Boat Race

After the incident of the Brahmin family, king dedicated to conducting boat as a token of respect to the deity. For the participants of the race, it is not just the matter of competition but they are actually celebrating the anniversary of the installation of the idol in this temple. Various snake boats or more commonly the Palliyodams where decorated and is head by a chief to control the oarsmen. After the morning, rituals in the temple and seeking blessings from God each team will set for the race. A great kind of spirit is aroused in everyone when they row the boat. Even the spectators will entertain the oarsmen by singing Vanchipattu. Thousands throng the banks of the river Pamba to watch the race exclusively. Thus during seasons, by checking the Best Kerala tour packages price, it is evident that these are not just thrilling the natives but is equally influencing the travel concepts of people from different places of the world.

Aranmula Kannadi or Mirror

One famous aspect of the village is its unique mirror named Aranmula Kannadi. Unlike other mirrors, it is made using a unique combination of an alloy of copper and tin. There are families around the temple who are expert in making these mirrors. They have been doing this work for centuries and with much perfection. According to them, any flaws in making the mirror are considered undesirable and will bring bad omen. It has no glass surface and it is really worth. Devotees used to take these homes and believe that keeping this in the home can bring prosperity. A tedious work is behind its construction.
