Wayanad: Where Nature Hosts The Guests To The Evergreen Hillock.

Anyone traveling to the beautiful destination of Kerala would be startled at the real richness of nature at the destination. Rivers, hills, and forests lead the way to anyone’s heart and it turns out to be the real destination where exploring has more scope. The destination turns out to be the best place to be at when with friends as well. A personal journey of my friends through the forests and hills makes way to this realization. We had 10 days of holidays after the semester break and were eager to set off on a journey where we would also be able to refresh our minds. We had already been to most of the beautiful places in Bangalore and wanted to set off on a moderate long journey due to which we decided to take it on 300 Kilometres drive from Bangalore to Wayanad. We could draw our journey on few basis where drive, trekking, and budget were the prime factors to the travel. We were students and so budget was the pocket money which we had saved for 5 months and so we were keen on checking the Kerala Tour Package with price range that fell into our budget. We decided to hand some of our planning work to Seasonz India Holidays who were our planners we had found for ourselves.

The final exam had been good but we were eager to leave as soon as possible due to which all of us cracked our exam in an hour and a half and got back to the apartment to load our bags into the jeep that belonged to our friend who resided at Kannur. We could hence cut on to half of our budget as we had the vehicle for travel and decided to pool the money for the petrol. We set full tank petrol before setting off and then drove to the way of our dream travel which began from Bangalore to Wayanad. We had lunch from the city and packed some snacks for our journey where we got to the way through Mysore. the destination seemed to be of more greenery and less of pollution. It was a working day which avoided a lot of traffic on the way and got us to be on a soothing journey through the roads.

It took us an approximate time period of 7 hours where we took three stops in between as we had been driving in turns. There were 5 of us and each of us had varied interests on travel. It was 8 in the night when we reached Wayanad and got to see the welcome board through the beam light. One of my friends said we could spend time outside till 10 in the night as the weather had been quite chilling but slight drizzling got me back to the jeep and called the tour planners for the location to the hotel that had been booked for us. We had insisted that we wanted a cheap room as no fancy room could ever reach the comfort level of a normal room with just beds in it and an attached bathroom. Following the route map, we took our way to the hotel that had been waiting for us. We got food parcelled for the night and in the comfort of our economical room, we ate our dinner. There were 5 of us and only 4 bed space was available in the room due to which we got an extra bed.

The next day came to us in glory as we were off to Chembra peak which was, in short, the way to an epic trekking journey.  Being one of the largest peaks of Western Ghats, we were excited to set off to the top. We had already got the trekking poles and hired a guide for the trekking as there were chances that we could get lost. So following the footsteps of the expert person we walked through the grasslands where we also got to see beauty approaching us in the form of nature. The way had been rocky and it was not easy to climb up. We took several halts in between until we got to see the heart-shaped lake staring which all of us spend some good time. The guide informed us that the real trek up the hills was only beginning. We had been to Nandi hills at Bangalore for trekking but it seemed a lot greener her which showcased wildness.  We took some beautiful pictures of flora and fauna as we climbed where nature seemed to take care of itself. After taking several stops we got to the top where we got to see the real scenery of the destination from the top. Clouds still seemed to move through us even when it had been almost noon. Anyone could be happy with trekking up to the top to end up seeing the orgasmic view of nature shimmering in its real allurement. We spend approximately 2 hours thereafter which we decided to climb down. We tipped the guide along with his wage as he had been more than a guide to us in the whole trekking experience.

The hike had been tiring but worth. We grabbed enough food and decided to go to the next spot which was the Karalad Lake. Adorned with pure beauty, we got to see zipline services functioning in the region. None of us had got into an adventure like it due to which all of us took turns in doing it  People had also been kayaking through the lake but we were quite late to reach up to do the same at Karalad. The price had also been alarmingly high. We had also been a part of a trip from our college at Bangalore in which we had indulged in kayaking at River Shambhavi. So we did not mind missing it and left to the hotel after a drive along the roads where the Kerala tour package from Bangalore had successfully come to the second night at Wayanad.

The next day we got up and vacated the hotel as by early evening we would be leaving back to Bangalore. Two of them stayed at Kannur and Kozhikode due to which they would be returning through bus service while three of us would drive back to our hometown. The last place where we decided to visit at Wayanad was Lakkidi View Point. Crossing approximately 13 miles we reached to the place where the viewpoint had a lot of people. The inhabitants of Wayanad were pretty much living a blissful life where they could feel freshness while breathing while we had to wear masks at Bangalore to protect our lungs. The scenarios were always different and that is exactly what had attracted us to visit the destination where we could be on an economically viable journey. After spending a good time capturing the pictures of the viewpoint, we took our way to the bus top where we dropped the guys and set back off to our own hometown.

The Abnormal blood sugar levels in patients of Surat are very high compared to those in Mumbai. Studies report that it is due to the incorrect lifestyle and genetics of Gujarat. But this cant deters them from taking part in a tour. For we know that stress and tension are the main villains for a diabetic patient. Several tour packages to Kerala are available from Surat and make them revel in the natural beauty. But, one has to travel on a flight or train to reach Kerala. Follow some travel hacks for diabetics to make the travel really comfortable.

Some exhilarating travel can promote wellness to some people. Other than lifestyle and genetics, there are people who due to life burdens, tension and stress develop high sugar levels. For them, even a minute issue can make them go depressed and angry too. Travel is a great medicine as it promises wellness of mind and in turn, reduces blood sugar levels. The coming months are the peak season for travel in Kerala and never ignore your parents with diabetics. Family tours are most welcomed. It is not just applicable to family tours but any travels like business purpose, weddings can also be met. Extra care must be taken while you travel for a business purpose. As it is the time you can get stressed and blood pressure to shoot up. These simple tips must be taken into account prior to your travel. Consider it as the gift of doctors to diabetic patients on world diabetes day on 14 November 2017.

For Normal long travels

  • Must consult your routine doctor prior to your travel and seek advice on dos and don’ts. Also, if possible, check the current blood sugar level and control your lifestyle.
  • While you travel, always carry twice the amount of medications for sugar which you used to take daily and also carry the supplies double the normal numbers. One benefit is that you can give half of the numbers to your companion in travel so that even if you have lost yours, medications will be regular.
  • Get the prescriptions for buying insulin, keto-diastin and oral hypoglycemic agents.
  • Try to carry the record or lists of all your current medications so that in case you need a medicine and not able to recall its name, then the list can be used to find it and will be helpful for others too.
  • In your handbag carry a small first aid box which contains medicins to be used in an emergency other than those will be taken periodically. Such medicines can be simple painkillers like crocin, paracetamol. Anti-diarrhoea capsules and antiseptic solution. Keep some carbohydrates food like dried fruits, dry biscuits, jelly beans. There are chances for some delays in travel and at that point, you can use it.

Patients taking Insulins, Travel checklists

It is reported that the diabetic diagnosed patients in Surat are prescribed with insulin injections after several follow up consultations. There are chances for climatic variations and it is necessary to adhere to the weather in the destination. As in warmer places, the insulin’s may be absorbed and hypoglycemic attack can take place. Regular monitoring of blood level is needed to understand the strength of insulin to be injected. Kerala is having a tropical climate and coming seasons are cooler so chances of this can be overruled. The type and strength of medication can change in countries if you get U-40 in India other countries give U-100 only. Also, for these different strengths, the syringe used must also suit the same strength. Insulin syringes must be kept at a cooler temperature and must not be exposed to sunlight. Never keep it on Dickey or dashboards, Instead carry a storage container to protect it from overheating. If traveling with your family, then ask any member to take care of it and remind you at the time of periodic dosage.

Guidelines to follow if you are traveling on a flight

  • If you are advised to take insulin, then don’t keep it in a suitcase as the low temperature can cause the insulin to freeze.
  • You are traveling somewhere far and unexpectedly you encounter a severe effect of diabetes, the proper medical whereabouts about your health must be provided at the concerned hospital like what medicine you are taking and are you allergic and all. A letter of description from  your regular doctor can help
  • Another letter stating you have diabetes and thus it is necessary to carry syringes and needles must be given at the airport.
  • For overseas trips, it is advised to adjust your watch with Indian time so that you could know which time you have taken your last dosage. eat according to the time you used to be before and not according to the country time.
  • Be prepared for the time zone change issues, chances of flight delays.

The vibrant beaches of Kerala are really tempting but extra care must be given at that location and avoid walking barefoot especially on hot sand beach water. Avoid injuries while walking or swimming. In case you have found a blister, tie it as soon as possible. Patients having diabetes, must adhere to food habits and you are lucky if you are coming with your family and on a family tour, your relatives can take good care of you. Don’t worry that it is impossible to travel with a patient having high sugar. Some of them used to cancel many holidays owing to this reason. Never deter from this and as Surat is the place where many adults suffer from diabetes, travel agents in Kerala have crafted special Kerala tour packages for family. Special care will be given to those families. You can choose the dishes accordingly and necessary adjustments will be made for you. Regarding the food habits, carry carbohydrate-rich food or sandwiches. From Surat, flights are available to reach Kerala and train is not a good idea. In flights, order an ‘ordinary meal’ instead of asking for a ‘diabetic meal’ as airline meal contain low carbohydrate. Another challenge that must be faced is the flight delays and to counter that keep biscuits/jelly beans in your handbag itself.

Honeymoon in Paradise Where Vegetation Build in a Different World

Jaipur
Jaipur

Have you ever been to Jaipur? It is one of the most beautiful lands filled with a number of historical monuments and destinations with unique stories to narrate of the land. It’s after my marriage that I first came to this beautiful place, the only thing that Jaipur lacked was greenery and vegetation which I missed the most. It was our first anniversary on the 3rd of November when we planned a trip to enjoy our second honeymoon. Living in Jaipur which is a dry city for a whole year all I missed was forest, mountains, waterfalls, and greenery. So we planned a trip one such destination with all the natural beauty, Kerala.

cochin international airport
cochin international airport

On the 3rd of November, Allen availed the Best Jaipur to Kerala tour packages which were offered by Holiday mango travel and scheduled to the 5th of November. As our flight was scheduled at 5 am early morning we finished our packing and other preparations by 4th evening. We reached the airport by 3 am where we met with the tour operators in Jaipur who handed us the tickets and helped us in boarding the flight. After travelling for around 5 hours we finally reached the Cochin international airport by 10 am. We were received by the travel operators in Kochi and they helped us greatly with the luggage, the cab and the hotel. According to our second honeymoon plan, we were to explore the destinations in Kochi by staying in the place for 1 night and 2 days.  So our destination was Kochi were we reached, from the Cochin international airport we were taken to the hotel which was ready and waiting for our arrival. We reached the hotel at Kochi by 11 am, after finishing the check-in formalities we entered our room by 11.30. It was already noon and so we decided to have the lunch from the restaurant in the hotel. After refreshing and having the lunch we started with our tour by 12.30pm, as we reached the parking area of the hotel we were given the program chart for the day.

Mangalavanam
Mangalavanam

According to the chart, the destinations we had for the day included Mangalavanam which was our first destination followed by Kodanadu Elephant Training Centre and Marine Drive. The trip for the day would end with the sunset at Marine Drive. We started our trip for the day to our first destination Mangalavanam. Located in the centre of Kochi the eco-tourist sport was around 30 min drives from our hotel. We reached the place by 1.00pm. Mangalavanam could be best explained as an alien place within the city of Kochi as the place holds in an environment and ambience which is entirely different from that surrounding it. Located in the busy city the place is one of the most peaceful destinations in Kochi which houses a wide range of migratory birds which are very sensitive to human voices. One of the main attractions of the place is the thick mangroves which add up to the beauty of the place. Living in Jaipur for so long the place with wide range of animals, mostly birds and the thick mangrove vegetation seems more like an alien planet to me. The place could be considered as one of the best honeymoon destination in Kochi where you could spend some peaceful and romantic moments with the one you love. After enjoying the nature and its beauty we decided to move on with the tour as per the plan.

Kodanad
Kodanad Elephant Training Centre

Our next destination was Kodanadu Elephant Training Centre which was located about 1 hr from the city. After the long drive, we reached the place by 3.00pm. Kodanadu Elephant Training Centre is a well-known destination among most over-sea travellers who love nature and the wild. The place is known to house a number of elephants of different age and size which attracts the travellers the most. Special arrangements are made for the visitors to play and spend time with the elephants in the river. We saw a number of baby elephants which raised their trunk as they saw us coming towards them after pampering the babies for a while and clicking their picks we moved on to the river to enjoy a bath in the waters. After playing and spending some beautifully romantic moments in the waters we decided to get to our next destination as the sun was coming down.

marine drive1
Marine Drive

We reached back to the main city by 4.45 pm and were taken to the Marine Drive which was at a short distance from the city. We reached the Marine Drive by 5 when the sky was reddish and the birds flying back home. Both the sides of the pathways were mostly occupied with small shops with ice creams and other things, we bought ice-creams to wail away the time. The sunset of the place was never like the one we used to see in Jaipur. As the place was mostly filled with monuments and buildings to see a perfect sunset as that we enjoyed in the place was never possible back in Jaipur. The drive was one of the best destinations for couples and honeymooners where they could spend an evening seeing the beauty of the setting sun. After enjoying the sunset we headed back to the hotel by 8 pm and reached the room by 8.30pm. After the long day, we decided to freshen up and have the dinner. We reached the dining after refreshing by 9.30 and after dinner slept off as we had a long day ahead.

The next day we woke up by 8 and after refreshing and having the complimentary breakfast we checked out of the hotel by 11 am. As we entered the cab we were given the tour plan for the day. According to the plan for the day we were to visit fort Kochi and then back to the Kochi international airport by evening as our return flight was scheduled for 10 pm. from Kochi, we reached Fort Kochi enjoying a boat ride by 12 pm. The Chinese fishing nets were the main thing that welcomed us to Fort Kochi. Even though we have heard of the beauty of the fishing nets in Kochi a number of times, being in Jaipur, we never had a chance to experience the feel in person. Finally, it was during our second honeymoon that we get an opportunity to witness the beautiful sight.  Fort Kochi is a destination with a number attractions and history that is attached to the place.

Inside St. Francis' Church
St Francis Church

After reaching fort Kochi the first destination that we visited was The St. Francis Church. The church which was built in the year 1503 is a well-known destination for the beautiful architecture the place holds and is believed to be one of the oldest European built church in the country. The architectures of the place are one of the main attractions of the church. After spending a while in the place we decided to visit The Indo-Portuguese Museum, which is located within the premises of the bishop’s house. One of the main attractions of the place is its exhibits which belong to different churches. The museum houses the true heritage of Indo-Portuguese culture and tradition. Some of the most valuable treasures which are exhibited in the place include collections of the Civil Life, Treasure, Altar, Procession and Cathedral.

fort immanuael
Fort Immanuel

After enjoying and exploring the rich heritage of the museum we decided to visit the Fort Immanuel. The fort was built in the 1500’s by the Portuguese soon after their invasion of the land. The place narrates the rich historic story of the Portuguese invasion and the Dutch invasion. The fort was destroyed by the Dutch when they first arrived in Kerala. Now it is just the remains of the fort that one can see in the place. Some relics are preserved in the basement of the Indo-Portuguese museum. By the time we explored these destinations the watch showed the time 6 pm. by 6.30 we reached the boat jetty and back to the Kochi city by 7 pm. After an hour ride we reached back to the Cochin international airport by 8.00pm and back to our home after another 5-hour flight by 3 am the next day.
The days we spend in Kochi as our second honeymoon was the best days of my life. Busy with job ad tight schedules even Allen didn’t have enough time spent with the family or me this was the best opportunity for me to enjoy some alone time with the one I love.

Kerala is undoubtedly the best destination for couples and honeymooners. The greenery and the beauty of the destinations are the best places where couples could spend some privet moments with each other in the lap of nature. The package we choose was the best for our second honeymoon, couples or honeymooners who wish to explore the beauty of the best exotic destinations in Kerala could avail the Best honeymoon packages which they think is the best for them. Couples can even choose the destinations they wish to visit in the land. With innumerable hill stations and mountain ranges, Kerala is one of the only destinations in India where couples could enjoy their days in the misty hills rich in greenery.

Ayurveda and a Healing Lesson of it

Only when one rises to the reality can he or she starts following the right way of living. I had been on my journey of enlightenment when I had been busy climbing the great Himalayas. But little did I know that I would end up having a sprain in my leg and a dislocated spine when I would reach back home. I belonged to Gods own country and there was no way that I was going to just give up on trying to get up as quickly as possible. So right after I went through an operation, I took rest for few weeks as per the doctor prescribed. The strain on my leg had still remained throughout. And the final plan was to go to a Nurturing Ayurvedic Resort in Kerala as per my mom’s decision. So we packed and set off to the resort for three days. I had been waiting to get out and escape from the bed as well as from the closed rooms. The resort was located at Munnar and was named Aura Ayurveda & spa.  As we reached they took me in a wheelchair to our room even when I insisted that I could walk. The place felt more comfortable than home as it was located amidst nature. And that was one major factor that helped me in feeling a lot more refreshed. My mother helped me get down the stairs where my personal instructor who was an Ayurveda doctor joined me. He explained everything regarding my condition after seeing my reports and said it was just a small sprain which required enough attention for healing.

My three days of treatment included two major treatments. One of them was Pada Abhayangam and the other one was Foot reflexology.  Pada Abhayangam was the first treatment that I underwent on the first day in the morning. They poured medicated herbal oil onto my leg and began massaging it. The five marmas on the leg were what they had been focusing on in order to see to it that more attention is given to the everything. The improvement of the peripheral circulation was also being aimed through it. My legs felt sturdier after the first go of treatment as well. They had also given my mom, sesame oil on the first day which had to be used even after my treatment here for a continuous period of 2 weeks. As it was Ayurveda, the healing would take more time as no side effects would come along with it, unlike the other treatments which require the intake of medicines. As I was done with the treatment, I went to the lawn that had been there in the premises of the center. The workers in the place had been taking care of the plants in the place and I sat on the grass feeling the mist of the place. The scenery was worth staring at and I felt a lot more rejuvenated being in the place. Tiny birds had been fluttering around and I had been sitting simply watching the fountain in the small pond that had been created in between.

Some people had been using Wifi as it was being provided in this Reviving Ayurvedic Spa in Kerala. But I was just not feeling to use mobile phones or headsets. All I wanted to do was stay on the lawn and stare at the birds. In some time people who had also been taking treatments came out to play badminton and other games. All the requirements for it were being done by the people working in the resort. After striding around we got back for lunchtime. Vegetarian food was being followed as it is considered as the best food for consumption. They had been producing the vegetables there itself due to which it had the tag of organic vegetables. After consuming just enough of food from the buffet, I went to my room and took some rest. They soon called me to the room on the phone and asked me to get ready for my session of foot reflexology. It was being done to reduce the pain as well as to improve blood circulation.Usually, reflexology is done for the whole body where the body is divided into zones and treated. But as I did not require it, my doctor had asked me to undergo three sessions of foot reflexology.

In just one day, my leg felt a lot better. The treatments had been pulling off the pain from my legs in each stroke of massage. My legs also felt much softer probably due to the herbal oil that was being used for the message. And it seemed much better than a pedicure to be honest. After the treatment, my doctor asked me to walk barefoot on the grass lawn. This is usually one major way through which nature can help in healing. Positive energy and something more comes from the earth to the body through this. In fact, most of the protective measures we take like wearing sandals and shoes are to be relaxed in a while especially at parks and gardens. After spending some great time in the park with the other people, I went inside to the swimming pool and had a good time in the baby pool that had been there as I could not strain my body through swimming, for a while.

The food that was served in the night was quite exciting where they had barbecued vegetables in the tastiest way ever. After having just enough food I spend some time playing indoor games which had again been provided by the resort. Through this, I was also getting to know the people who had been there. In the night I could sleep much better than usual days which had also been told to me by my instructor. This went on for three days and I was much healthier and fit than what I had been in the last few months. The benefit of being on the Rejuvenating  Kerala Ayurveda Packages was more than what I had expected from it. On returning from the place, I felt like I was bidding bye to a school with a whole lot of life lessons through which I could be more healthy and fit as well.

The Indelible Stay at the Munnar Hill Station

Kerala is a paradise located on earth where the people get to the escapade in the wildest of nature. And when fed with all the best facilities for travel, the journey becomes the best of all time. I belonged to Raipur and had no absolute plan of traveling to Kerala until our family friends had taken a trip to Munnar, ‘The Kashmir of south India’. We decided to explore this beautiful destination and set off on a family tour to Kerala from Chattisgarh. As we reached the Cochin International Airport, we got into the cab that had been sent to us by the Stunning Resorts in Kerala we had booked beforehand. It was evening and the sun was setting. As we drove through,  we passed through agricultural lands and evergreen grasslands and finally reached our destination after a three-hour drive.

It was night and our resort Broad Bean had been illuminated with decorative lights. The climate had been cold and soothing and we wanted to spend some time outside in the foggy night when the manager came and told us that they had a moon terrace and our dinner would be served there in a short while. So we went to our executive rooms and freshened up before going for the dinner. As we reached the moon terrace, we got the aroma of chicken and vegetables being barbequed and got to see all the people residing inside the resort there. A table had been exclusively booked for us where our food was served. Music had been playing we had been hogging all the delicious food.Candlelight dinner was being provided to the couples sitting on the other side of the terrace and the place seemed much more romantic with all the red balloons and candles that had been there.

We got down to the service counter after dinner in order to get some extra blankets and they informed us that we just had to inform them through the room service call. I also inferred regarding the confirmation of cab for our travel through Munnar for the next day and comfortably went to bed. The next day we got ready to travel while our breakfast reached us in room service. After taking everything necessary, we left to the first destination of our travel, Top Station. We reached the top after walking or rather trekking a short distance and reached the top from where we got to see the real beauty of Western Ghats. We felt like the clouds had been moving through us and could feel the mist on our feet. Mornings could not have been any better than at this destination. We walked through the place and enjoyed the sights of greenness everywhere. In some time we left for the next destination which was the Echo point which was also located nearby. The specialty of the destination was in the name itself. The echo that returns from this place is quite a fascination. And crazy people can have much more fun here screaming and howling into the air. We spend more time here before the sun started to spread its scorching heat in the place. We rode back to the resort for our lunch as our next destination of the visit was located on the same way. As we reached the Best Resort in Munnar, we got to see people who had been busy in outdoor games playing badminton and basketball. We asked them to serve us room service so that we could rest for some time as the trekking had got us quite tired.

After 2 hours, we walked down and got to see people who had come for spa services which are also being provided by the resort. We began our drive to Attukal Waterfalls. The destination was located in some 9 kilometers and we reached the eco-spot in a short drive. The place was lit in nature and was such a mesmerizing sight one could capture. We walked through a wooden bridge which added to the beauty of the place. Nature had never given me this level of satisfaction ever before. And the best part of Munnar was that the place just shimmered in nature and no infrastructure had overtaken the beauty of this land. We walked further more and could not take he our eyes off the falls. The adventurers were having a great time trekking here while we had been enjoying the view from the distance. The place captivated us for more than two hours as most of us did not really want to return back. But since it is not advised to travel during the night time at Munnar, we rode back to our resort.and decided to have a swim in the pool. Kids had already been playing in the kids’ pool while we took over the main pool.

When we reached back, the housekeeping had cleaned our room and we slide into our extra comfortable beds for some time. We walked to the small pond that had been there and spends some time pedaling the boat there. Even though there were enough Kerala hotels nearby, we were happy that we had chosen this place to stay as the facilities provided were quite good. And as far as Munnar is concerned, along with enjoying sightseeing and trekking, one should also take time to enjoy the climate of the place which we had been pursuing in this resort. We also called the service counter and booked a body spa for the next day. We could hear various sounds from the surroundings which probably belonged to birds. We walked through the resort and got to see a babysitting room for the baby residents. But none of them had been inside. We went to the restaurant and ordered tow coffee takeaways and walked sipping it to the room. Carrom board and coins had been kept on the table and we decided to play together for some time. We walked to the moon terrace which had already become my favorite place in the resort. We were served with varieties of seafood this time and it was a dinner delight for us.

The next day we packed some hot crispy vada for breakfast and started on our journey to Photo point. This destination was quite famous for taking pictures and hence we had charged our DSLR camera. We reached the place and surprisingly, photographers had been there helping the people take pictures. We clicked some with our camera and asked the photographer to get some group pictures of hours after which we left to the next destination which was tea gardens. when we reached the location. all we could see was tea plantations spread out to acres. The view was more than mesmerizing and we were eager to pluck some leaves by ourselves which the locals allowed us to do. We also got some fresh tea powder from the center there and got down to a garden where we were provided with hot packed food from our resort. We sat and had it in the garden and it was definitely a great experience. Our two exciting days were over and we were to return back to the airport in order to catch our night flight. More than the destinations, we were sure that we would be missing the Thrilling Budget Resort in Munnar as they had hosted us in the best possible way. We thanked the manager and cleared all our dues before leaving. The best thing that happened when we were returning was that we were packed with some snacks for our travel along with fresh juices and that was when we realized that the trip was one of the best with the best memories.

HOW CAN THE CONCEPT OF RESPONSIBLE TOURISM PROTECT THE KERALA BACKWATERS?

Backwater Riding in Kerala

We are familiar with the concept of ‘Swatch Bharata’ or otherwise, clean India. Indians is a prodigious land and it is the duty of every citizen to keep it cleans not for enhancing its beauty but also to preserve the legacy of many great personalities who fought to get our land back. In India, the famous and popular state, which had elongated its fame cutting the boundaries of many countries, Kerala the real Gods own country is the epitome of culture and tradition. To maintain up the purity of this God-given land, a great effort must be followed every day. We know the condition of cleanliness in Kerala but neglecting all these, more inflow of tourists are experienced every year.

Tourists in Kerala

Tourism in Kerala alone is reaping more part of the revenue. The reason is that people coming from faraway places do respect the existence of the state and they value the traditions followed here. Even many traits are being exported to foreign countries for practicing. At the same time, we are here making our state untidy by erupting pollution and violating the rules more than that not even doing our duties daily. It is our responsibility to clean our state for welcoming guests same as we do in our own houses. With this concept, the responsible tourism has taken its form.  The sole pride of Kerala tourism, Kerala backwaters is what which more needs care as, to witness its eminence lakhs of tourists are arriving yearly. They are really fond of booking any Kerala backwater packages to experience the charm of being inside a houseboat. At this point, it is our duty to maintain the cleanliness at these spots. This doesn’t mean that we must go to the destination and clean the garbage but at least, we can help ourselves to not make it untidy while we travel on these houseboats or during sightseeing.

We often see in the advertisements that the Kerala backwaters are addressed as the fascinating Water world in the earth. What actually happens is that the public markets are masking the plastic rust and bio-waste in the area. Is that sound really pride for us? Definitely not, and we must conceive the fact that Kerala is our land. As the first step of responsible tourism initiative, the effort was to make the Vembanad Lake purged of garbage. Vembanad Lake is the artery through which the backwater tour progresses. Houseboats are the major medium of water transport on which tourists enjoy the panorama of the adorable water world. Since the geography of some destinations is such that the water levels of a backwater, as well as the village, are same, we can enjoy sitting inside the houseboat itself and to get a view of rural lives. These houseboats are fitted with all luxuries and comfort, perfect for a stay. Thus the increased demand for Kerala Houseboat package is experienced day by day. Since more inflow of tourists is experienced at these locations, Government has focused the introduction of responsible tourism at these places. By doing so it is mobilizing the support of each and every individual linked with the tourism. There was interaction will all stakeholders and sought their support.

 Kerala Houseboat package

In an effort to create more employment for many locals involved in tourism directly or indirectly, now the concept of responsible tourism has expanded its mandate to cover the preservation of ecology and environment too. Since the concept stresses on the organic involvement at the local level, the objective can be achieved well. The coordination committee interacted with houseboat, motorboat and Shikara boat owners to lessen their pollution in water while conducting the tourism. They replied that it is not just them who are involved in degradation of the backwaters but other factors too. Also, their future lies with the health of these adorable wetlands. Thus by the joint effort, a committee named Vembanad Kayal Samyukta Samraksha Samithi was formed headed by a houseboat owner. This venture is focusing on the cleaning of the Vembanad Lake for which 5 lakhs rupees has been allocated.  Even many resort owners are contributing towards it. Also, besides this effort for a cleaning drive, this group has appointed local units to manufacture paper and cloth bags in an effort to replace plastic bags.

 vembanadu lake

The Ashtamudi Lake, which is the gateway of backwater tourism, is also included in the list. We know that most of the tourists prefer houseboat rides and the income from these luxuriously cruising resorts many benefit some but concerning others, especially the rural households living on the banks of the waters. Actually, the poorly regulated houseboat tourism is the main reason that is indirectly affecting the ecosystem, fish species, and water qualities as well. Certain initiatives from the responsible tourism coordination can regulate this and there will be active participation of small local communities like Kudumbhasree, Karshika Samithi and all. Even the tour planners providing exotic Kerala backwater tour packages can help by active checking on the tourists arriving and regulating their activities without making them uncomfortable. Some norms must be followed once you are on a tour especially on preserving the ecosystem there. Kumarakom has successful, completion of responsible tourism concept and it ensured women empowerment, employment opportunities, and exhibition of local handicrafts and active rural tourism. It is with this pace, we all must progress and ensure a clean Kerala backwaters.

An escape from the capital city of India to Kerala

“We travel not to escape life, but for life not to escape us.”
zT9tmqg
Kerala is a biodiversity hub where the people get to see a lot of tourist sites. As one travels through the ways here, he indulges into the mother nature and escapes into the wildernesses of the place. A lot of places hence house both flora and fauna which makes the whole ecosystem of the location. As one view the Gods own country from an airplane, all that he gets to see is either water or greenery of the land. In order to witness this one should surely come on a Kerala tour package with price that is affordable in which people can see the best destinations of the place. I decided to take the opportunity of visiting Kerala along with my friends from our office.  As the public holidays arrived, we decided to set on this trip from Delhi, to the other end of India.
We flew to the Kozhikode International airport as one among our team belonged to this district. It didn’t take us long to reach the place where he lived. We were treated quite well with biryanis and a lot of snacks and fruits. The journey had been quite tiring due to which I had almost everything that had been kept in front of me. At the end, my friend also served us Kozhikode Halwa which was indeed a delight to my stomach. In fact, the delicious food of Kerala welcomed us and we felt quite good in being welcomed that way.  We had already decided that we would be going to few places at Kozhikode, the next day in order to explore this Malabar region.
waterfall1
The first place where we set to explore was the Thusharagiri waterfalls. In order to reach the falls, we had to trek up the hills. And we would never complain as anyone would feel like hiking here due to the plantations that surround the place. There were three hills located here which were the Erattumukku, Mazhavil Chattom, and Thumbithullum Para. As I walked, I could hear the sounds of insects and the humming of birds. I also got to see some birds which I had never spotted anywhere before. People had been growing pepper and other spices there. We reached the falls which had been cascading in grace. The view was amazing and it seemed to be flowing from nowhere. As we had come from Delhi we had not been to so many waterfalls. Even though there are few of them located in Rajasthan and Shimla we had to travel a long way to reach it. On being on this Kerala tour package from Delhi we had been on an escape trip. The major escape was from the pollution there due to which just being in these eco-spots were of joy to us. After sitting there and resting for some time, we clicked some pictures of the place.
adventure
On trekking for half a day, people could reach the adjoining district which is Wayanad. But as our car had been waiting for us, we did not take that adventure and returned back to go to the next place on our list which was the Kakkayam dam. The aura of this place was more than just heart-warming. We went to the dam and took a short boat ride in it. Even though it was evening time we could feel the chilled air here on cruising through the dam. The trees still had the dewdrops falling beneath. Animals like goats and bisons had been grazing on the grass there. The whole view of the hills standing in between the grasslands was indeed amazing. After exploring the place, we left to the next place in between which we decided to have some food. The meals served here is quite special as they have both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. The seafood served here is outstanding as the spices on it makes it taste good. We went to the Vellari Mala which belonged to both Kozhikode and Wayanad. This is indeed an awesome place to trek up the hills. We walked through for some time as the weather had been good even though it was noon time. The huge trees that had been there made the view more beautiful.  Finally, we went to the famous Kozhikode beach which seemed crowded even on a weekday.
Quite a lot of snacks were being served there out of which we had tasted some as we were hunger stricken. In some time we went back as the next day we had decided to go to Wayanad. It took us approximately 3 hours to reach this beautiful land. The drive along the route itself seemed adventurous. On the sides of the road, I had seen deer that had been grazing. Wildlife sanctuaries and parks are located in this place After hogging some breakfast we decided to go to the Wayanad wildlife sanctuary. After taking the necessary instructions from the forest department we set inside with a guide who accompanied us. Endangered as well as exotic species resided in this hub of nature. We walked in without making noise as it would shoo away the animals around the place. We got to see some wild cats which we had never seen anywhere before. The animal seemed to be carefree of our presence. We also got the sight of some exotic birds which kept fluttering around. After spending almost 3 hours inside we got out and went to the Chembra peak for trekking. Wayanad seemed to be an amazing place to visit on a honeymoon.
honeymoon blog
There were quite a lot of places for the couples to visit here which we had avoided as we were more into trekking We had already suggested our couple friends from Delhi to visit this place for a memorable time. On coming on a Kerala honeymoon package from Delhi they could have privacy as well as peace compared to other crowded places. Also, there were not enough couple hangout places at the capital city. As we climbed up, we got to see a heart-shaped lake. Out of the places I had trekked in Kerala, this place seemed harder but totally worth as the sight ones to see from the top is priceless. It took us a long time to get back down. And had drained all the energy from us too. Hence we decided to stay over at a resort in Wayanad. The next day we went to the Kuruva Island. It was a small delta which had orchids all around it. Nature was purely at bliss as butterflies had been fluttering around which was a great sight. We had to get back to Kozhikode in order to fly back as our holidays were already over. So right after having some fun at Kuruva, we set back home.
The specialty of Kerala indeed is not just the tourist destinations, but also the cuisines that are served to the people which call back any tourist to visit the place again. The accommodation sites here are also very welcoming where we get maximum comfort which helps in getting rid of travel sickness. Also, there are a number of destinations to visit and explore here which offers nature at its best. A trip through this land is hence the best option to take when planning to go on vacation with DreamHolidays.

End the Onam with a Blast in Water; Enjoy the Great Aranmula Boat Race, Weaving Traditions

null
We Keralite have heard about the famous water regatta, Aranmula boat race, a part of our tradition. Do you know that an ancient life experience of a Brahmin late came to be evolved as the most respected and enjoyed culture of Kerala? We have witnessed its eminence in close; still, there are some including me who are not aware of its significance. This great festive like event is held on the last day of the harvest festival of Kerala, Onam that is Uthrittathy according to the Malayalam calendar. Since this day comes under the period when all the other boat races are scheduled, you can expect a number of visitors during this time. It is also a golden opportunity for those who have missed Nehru trophy boat race in Alleppey. More than the natives of Kerala, the people from other states or countries are more thrilled in watching these events. This time taking this fact into consideration, many travel organizers are arranging a trip in this Onam from other parts of the country as well. Let them enjoy and understand our tradition’s magnificence, as they always do. Native’s f Pune is more attracted to enjoy the water fiesta as they long to watch these kinds of game that arouse the spirit of people. Thus along with other trips in Kerala, the last day of Onam is purely dedicated to watching Aranmula boat race. It is not just the race, but there are some more attractions for this. Pune natives can enthrall on having the best Kerala meal this time and can ask for any vegetable curry they want. This is a special part of the day, where a sumptuous feast is organized for masses arranging a variety of Kerala traditional dishes. Thus, various trip packages like Enchanting Kerala tour packages from Pune including great kind of attractions to watch on this special day are arranged by various trip arrangers. Along with which the curious people from Pune can witness the temple, Sree Parthasarathy temple for which actually the event is well connected. Also, they can take away with them the most precious and auspicious special type of mirror, the famous Aranmula mirror. The interesting fact is that the material used for it is not glass but something else. Let’s find out what it is, before, which understanding the mythology of the temple is necessary.

Sree Parthasarathy Temple

The Aranmula boat race has a strong connection with this temple. Actually, it is organized to offer tribute to the deity, Lord Krishna and the day when it is conducted is the annual celebration of the idol when it was installed. The presiding deity is Lord Krishna in the form of Parthasarathy, the role played by Lord Krishna as the Chariot of Arjuna, the Pandava prince in the great Mahabharata war. The temple is surrounded by various myths and the sight of the temple itself is awesome and majestic. This holy temple is located on the banks of river Pampa at Aranmula Village, about 128 kilometers from Trivandrum. The temple is said to have 1700 years old. An epic is related to the evolution of the temple is as such that after gaining victory in Mahabharata war, the Pandavas continued to live and at last made Parikshit, the grandson of Arjun the king and they left for pilgrimage. On the course of their pilgrimage, each of them has installed an idol of Lord Krishna in various places. Of which, Arjun has installed the idol at a place called Nilakkal Narayanapuram which was later taken to the present place. The idol was brought here with great welcome on a boat made of  6 bamboo sticks which later evolved into the name of the village as ‘Aranmula’ meaning the 6 bamboo sticks. This day is celebrated annually but how a boat race was envisaged is a story. There are four main entrances to this temple of which one points to the Pamba River. One noticing aspect is that the door of the sanctum sanctorum will never be fully closed. It is always partially closed so as to denote the permission given by Lord Krishna to his devotee, Arjun to visit him at any time. One needs to climb many steps if they are entering from east and North of the temple. Thus getting a chance to visit the temple premises and rituals is considered sacred. Natives of Pune can enjoy the ancient art form, Arjuna Nirtham on their tour free of cost.

Valla Sadhya or Mass Feast

This is a unique mass feast arranged by the temple authorities as an offering to the Lord and devotees can attend the feast. It is a huge celebration of the temple, conducted on the auspicious birthday of the Lord, Ashtamirohini. Have you been to Kerala during this time? Although being an off-season for tourism, you can watch many tourists arriving Kerala for the exclusive watch of these festivals like boat races especially along with Athachmayam and other rituals. To attract them, more package itineraries are included this time focusing on certain tourists like people from Bangalore and Pune.  The natives of Bangalore are more inclined to the technical world but are highly religious and jovial. What they seek most is the food in Kerala; this time they can get it with more pleasure as Vallasadya is here, where devotees are fed with Kerala meal having 45 dishes. Along with a sacred delicious meal in the temple premises, it is a chance for them to enjoy the boat race. Hence, various Kerala tour packages from Bangalore with low rate are including the visit to Aranmula village during Onam season. Around one lakh people will be attending the feast and you can ask for any dish, which will be served to you. Actually, this feast is arranged specially for the participants of the boat race or the crews of Palliyodans (snake boats). The legends say that during the ancient period the rice and other agricultural products were transported by driven boats on Pampa River to the King’s palace. Once a boat carrying these products got struck on the bank of the temple. Nobody could make it move even the soldiers of the king. The king asked his astrologer upon whom it was cleared that a Brahmin family is starving during Onam and is not able to cook anything due to poverty. They have prayed to the Lord and it is the magic of the god himself who made the boat to get stuck. The king decided to give a part of the products to the family even then the boat did not move. Then on further inspection, they came to know that there are more families there who are starving. The whole product in the boat was distributed to all families. Thus after this incident, the mass feast was arranged to the devotees during Onam, never letting anyone to stay empty stomach during Onam.  The oarsmen will come in a boat to the temple and the feast is for them.

After the incident of the Brahmin family, king dedicated to conducting boat as a token of respect to the deity. For the participants of the race, it is not just the matter of competition but they are actually celebrating the anniversary of the installation of the idol in this temple. Various snake boats or more commonly the Palliyodams where decorated and is head by a chief to control the oarsmen. After the morning, rituals in the temple and seeking blessings from God each team will set for the race. A great kind of spirit is aroused in everyone when they row the boat. Aranmula Kannadi or Mirror

One famous aspect of the village is its unique mirror named Aranmula Kannadi. Unlike other mirrors, it is made using a unique combination of an alloy of copper and tin. There are families around the temple who are expert in making these mirrors. They have been doing this work for centuries and with much perfection. According to them, any flaws in making the mirror are considered undesirable and will bring bad omen. It has no glass surface and it is really worth. Devotees used to take these homes and believe that keeping this in the home can bring prosperity. A tedious work is behind its construction.
