Cellular Jail is not just a tourist spot. It is much more than that. The jail represents the darkest times that the country has gone through and the sacrifices of our great freedom fighters. The Cellular Jail was often called as ‘Kaala Pani’ as many of the brave Indian soldiers were killed in large numbers by the Britishers at the time. The ‘Kaala Pani’ of those days was a worse Guantanamo Bay. This jail has witnessed the tyranny of the British rulers, the massacres and the undying efforts for freedom for the Motherland. Today, the Cellular Jail is considered as a tomb for hundreds of freedom fighters who laid down their lives for the sake of India’s freedom. The jail with its towering buildings and strong walls housed several numbers of cells. You should never miss visiting the Cellular Jail when you are in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
